Cancun, Mexico / February 2010

Cancun is one of the cheapest vacations you can take. Well worth a trip if you're tight on budget or just need to get an ocean fix. Our trip here was, unfortunately, a vacation I wish I could do over because the weather was unusually rainy and cold. At least we ate well and could see ocean! Priceline mystery bidding landed us at the Gran Melia which is no longer called that, but whatever it it's called I absolutely loved this resort. Having a private balcony is a box I have to check off if I'm staying by the ocean, and this resort has one in every guest room. Cancun is very touristy, but the sand is perfect and the ocean is amazing for swimming. In Cancun you can stay in the hotel zone and take the bus everywhere for crazy cheap.

DON'T MISS:

Isla Mujeres. Take a short ferry ride out to this small Island for the day, rent a golf cart and get massages on the beach! There's a spectacular underwater museum with guided snorkel tours if the water is calm and clear.

GOOD EATS:

Go downtown. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the authentic restaurant we went to that had the most amazing vibe with live music and open air eating. I only have pictures. There are dozens like it if you go to this area in the city.

Hacienda Sisal.  In the hotel zone, this restaurant is where I fell in love with guacamole and learned the secret ingredient of putting a little ground coriander in it. Steak fajitas to die for.
