LIGHTING ARTWORK: YES OR NO?
After you’ve hung your carefully selected masterpiece, consider a final step. Not every painting needs special light, however those spaces that invite conversation and gathering will need the support, especially after sunset. On the flip side, a low traffic kitchen nook with a huge window casting natural light on the wall can probably go without unless you spend late nights there. With many ways to accomplish this, here are two of my favorite styles.
SQUARE + ROUND
Consider mixing hard edges and curves for a transitional feel like this picture light from Rejuvenation. I prefer some curves for this. It can bring your eye back to the art instead of feeling like an extension of it.
RIDGEWOOD PICTURE LIGHT
CEILING CAMOFLAUGE
You simply can’t go wrong by placing lights overhead in the same color as the ceiling. Just make sure you point the light correctly and consider any other fixtures nearby.
